The City of Vancouver today announced the launch of its new Arts Council, with members chosen from 199 applicants. The council will report directly to City Council on issues, policies and priorities concerning Vancouver’s arts and cultural communities.
“An Arts Council is long overdue for Vancouver, and I’m excited it will be getting underway,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. “Our city has top-notch artistic talent, and our artists face major challenges, whether it is affordability, access to space, or stable funding.
“Giving artists a direct voice to City Hall is a step that I hope will help us build a stronger foundation for the arts in Vancouver, and fully capitalize on the expertise and creativity that exists in the city.”
