Canada Snowboard DayMayor Gregor Robertson declared February 24, 2010 Canada Snowboard Team Day to honour women’s snowboard cross gold medalist Maëlle Ricker and congratulate all of Canada’s snowboard competitors at the Olympic Winter Games.

“Our Canadian Snowboard Team has put on an amazing performance during these Games,” said Mayor Robertson. “Maëlle Ricker is the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic gold medal at home and snowboard cross silver medalist Mike Robertson is among the first Canadian Olympians to win a medal. We wanted to pay tribute to them and their teammates to let them know how much their performances have meant to all of us.

Vancouver’s Olympic transportation plan has been a clear winner for Vancouver, and has created long-term sustainable transportation legacies for the city, Mayor Gregor Robertson said today.
 
The expanded capacity provided during the games has allowed the transit system to operate at unprecedented levels — on the Canada Line alone, the peak increase is three times higher than pre-game levels — with higher daily ridership figures than other major cities in North America.

Mayor at Aboriginal Friendship Centre2

Mayor Gregor Robertson, City of Vancouver Olympic torchbearers, two Olympians and the co-designer of the Olympic medals helped carry the spirit of the Olympic Torch and Olympic Winter Games to the Aboriginal Friendship Centre today, recreating some of the buzz of the Torch Relay that was diverted from the neighbourhood.

“The torch helped connect us as Canadians and brought people together from every corner of our country and our city,” Mayor Robertson said. “I’m glad we could come back to the Aboriginal Friendship Centre today and bring some of the torch spirit to those who missed out.”

Mayor Robertson signed a Protocol of Intent on Tuesday with Anatoly N. Pakhomov, the Mayor of Sochi. The Protocol of Intent provides opportunities to share valuable information on the planning and delivery of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

“As the Host City of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, we have been proud and honoured to welcome the world to Vancouver,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson.
