Mayor Gregor Robertson helped welcome Ken Lyotier, the founder of United We Can, into the Yaletown Live Site on Thursday night as he lit the Community Cauldron in Vancouver.

For the past 15 years Ken has helped hundreds of people in the Downtown Eastside through United We Can, a non-profit recycling program that provides work to people collecting recyclables in Vancouver.

Ken has received numerous awards for his community work, including a Medal for Meritorious Service from the Governor General of Canada. His contributions to making Vancouver a better place are one of the many reasons Mayor Robertson recommended Ken as the torchbearer to light the cauldron at David Lam Park on Thursday night, one day before the start of the 2010 Winter Games.
