Mayor Gregor Robertson kicked off this year’s YVRTwestival (Vancouver Twitter Festival) by revealing he is a recent convert to local company Invoke’s social media platform, Hootsuite. He described Vancouver’s technology scene as a ‘culture of innovation’ with significant local talents – he name dropped Hootsuite, Plenty of Fish, and Flickr as being examples of world-leading expertise.
The Mayor got into the spirit of the event by joining the group of over 200 ‘well connected’ individuals tweeting greetings, comments and messages of support for the event’s beneficiary, Beauty Night Society.
The event, held at the Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre, raised over $8000 to invest in Beauty Night’s cause – to build self esteem and change lives of women and youth living in poverty through 3 streams of programming – wellness, life skills development and makeovers.
