"I am very disappointed that the BC government didn’t adopt the full recommendations from its own Climate Leadership Team and seize the opportunity to put BC back at the forefront of Canadian climate action. Once a frontrunner in setting ambitious climate action targets, BC now lags behind Alberta and Ontario, who in recent years adopted innovative, comprehensive plans to cut carbon pollution while building cleaner, greener economies.
"The new BC Climate Plan fails to aggressively cut climate pollution and focus BC to compete in the global clean economy, which are essential to a healthy, prosperous future. Vancouver is a living example of economic prosperity directly connected to environmental action - our economy is the fastest growing and most resilient in the nation, while we’ve cut climate pollution by 15% over 2007 levels. We’re on track to be the greenest city in the world by 2020, 100% renewably powered by 2050 or sooner, and lead the country in economic growth – averaging three per cent - for the next three years.
"Urgent investments are needed from the BC government into transit, green infrastructure and jobs, and community actions that aggressively grow our low-carbon economy. I will continue to call on the BC government to step up its action on climate change and invest in a renewable, low carbon future while Vancouver continues to power BC’s economy with green economic growth."
