In June 2015 the City of Vancouver released an update on Vancouver’s progress toward reaching the ambitious Greenest City 2020 Action Plan targets. The update marked the half-way point in the first set of goals to make Vancouver the world’s greenest city by 2020.
Over this past summer, the City engaged with thousands of stakeholders, subject matter experts, and residents to hear their input on next steps in achieving the targets set out in the Greenest City Action Plan. From this, the City has created a refreshed Greenest City Action Plan which includes 51 new priority actions for Vancouver to take to ensure the 2020 targets are met. The updated Greenest City Action Plan was presented to Council this week.
The Greenest City Action Plan remains an internationally renowned strategy for achieving urban sustainability. By working collaboratively with residents, local businesses and organizations, we are building a strong economy, and vibrant and inclusive neighbourhoods, allowing Vancouver to remain a city that meets the needs of both current residents as well as generations to come. Through this set of measurable and attainable targets, Vancouver is on its way to becoming the greenest city in the world by 2020.
