This morning, Mayor Gregor Robertson thanked Housing Minister Rich Coleman, the Streetohome Foundation, Raincity Housing, the Katherine Sanford Housing Society and Vancouver Coastal Health for joining together to start development on a new 147-unit social housing project.

“This project provides a great opportunity for some of our most vulnerable citizens to get access to affordable housing and support services,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. “Our partnership with the Province is delivering real results: from 2010 to 2011, we saw an overall decrease in homelessness of 110 people. This new affordable housing will build on our recent success and move us closer to ensuring that every citizen in Vancouver has a home.”

Mayor Robertson welcomed today’s announcement from Premier Campbell and Minister Rich Coleman of $225 million in new money for social housing in Vancouver, calling it a major step towards achieving the City’s goal of ending street homelessness by 2015.

“This is great news for Vancouver, and is a major step towards our goal of ending street homelessness by 2015,” said Mayor Robertson.
“Today’s announcement of $225 million brings the total provincial investment for new social housing in Vancouver to $333 million since December 2008. Our partnership with the provincial government is paying off and delivering real results for the people of Vancouver.”
