Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson and five former Mayors issued an open letter to the federal government today, asking them to reconsider their opposition to Vancouver’s safe injection facility Insite.
“Insite has proven beyond a doubt its value for our community,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. “It has saved lives, reduced transmission of deadly diseases, and increased the use of detox and addiction treatment, which is why we are calling on the federal government to reconsider its position opposing Insite.”
The open letter to the federal government was signed by the following Mayors of Vancouver:
Mayor Gregor Robertson, 2008-present
Sam Sullivan, 2005-2008
Larry Campbell, 2002-2005
Philip Owen, 1993-2002
Mike Harcourt, 1980-1986; former Premier of BC, 1991-1995
Art Phillips, 1972-1976
“The wide range of political perspectives supporting Insite demonstrates how crucial Insite has become, particularly for the health of some of our most vulnerable citizens,” said Mayor Robertson.
