Mayor Robertson signed a Protocol of Intent on Tuesday with Anatoly N. Pakhomov, the Mayor of Sochi. The Protocol of Intent provides opportunities to share valuable information on the planning and delivery of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

“As the Host City of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, we have been proud and honoured to welcome the world to Vancouver,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson.  “Being a Host City requires years of planning. We will work closely with Sochi to share our experience, provide information on our planning and operations, and support the city to help build a successful Olympic Games environment in 2014.”

The agreement also sets out a protocol for exploring 2014 Olympic-related business opportunities, trade and cultural exchanges, and co-operation on healthy living strategies and sustainable forest practices.

“The City of Sochi has seen the incredible benefits experienced here in Vancouver through hosting the 2010 Games, and we know that the 2014 Games will change the lives of our residents for the better too through improved transportation and infrastructure and sustainable environmental practices,” said Anatoly N. Pakhomov, Mayor of Sochi.

The XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will be held from Feb. 7 to Feb. 23, 2014, and will be Russia’s first-ever Winter Games.
