Mayor to support motion for mobile ‘City App’

Mayor Gregor Robertson will be supporting a Council motion next week to develop a mobile ‘City App,’ which would increase access to city services and information for Vancouver residents and businesses.

“Vancouver is continuing to demonstrate leadership on how digital innovation can make a city more open, accessible and accountable to its citizens,” says Mayor Gregor Robertson. “A new mobile ‘City App’ would make the City's key services accessible both quickly and more conveniently.”

The motion coming to next week’s Council meeting from Councillor Andrea Reimer calls for City Staff to report back on a timeline and financial analysis for an app that would allow businesses and residents to easily access key city information and services (such as business licensing and recreation programming) in a timely manner.

The app would work across mobile platforms (ie. Blackberry, Apple, and Android) and also allow citizens to report specific problems in their neighbourhoods.

“I support Councillor Reimer’s motion and I hope it receives the unanimous support of Council,” adds Mayor Robertson. “The development of a ‘City App’ would be another strong example of Vancouver’s leadership on open data and citizen engagement.”
