A modern framework that enables ride sharing in BC is long overdue, and I’ve been calling for the Province to bring in new regulations for over a year. I support a fair and level playing field that enables new technologies like digital dispatch and on-demand service that our residents want, while meeting high standards on safety, insurance, and service for people with disabilities. Until we see details of what’s being proposed for legislation it’s difficult to say if the Province’s proposal meets those objectives. Waiting until the end of the year to make changes is an unnecessary delay given how long this issue has existed in BC.
I look forward to hearing from all provincial parties what their policies are for enabling ride sharing, as well as their commitments to the biggest, most urgent transportation priority in Vancouver: a commitment to properly fund the Broadway Subway and support transit improvements across Metro Vancouver.
